Sietske, 25 years old, customer advisor
“Pension? To me, that always felt like a topic for older people, until I realised I can start taking measures now to ensure I retain my lifestyle later in life.”
‘I often think about my future. What could my next steps be, either inside or outside ING? My life is busy and dynamic. Nothing ties me down, and I like it that way!
I didn't know how the new pension plan would affect my personal situation, until I read that it meant my risks would be higher. So I started setting aside savings in a separate account – my personal pension pot for later. I’d like to be able to live comfortably later in life, and I realised I’d have to start saving for that well ahead of time. I didn’t think I’d have to start saving for my pension from the age of 25 years!
Two years ago, I joined ING as a customer advisor. It's a job that entails a lot of responsibility, because I coach and advise customers in important decisions that are crucial to the future of their business. I want to do my job as well as I can and make use of opportunities when they arise. I wasn’t worried about my pension future, which is typical to my generation, I suppose. My friends all think the same!

I was clueless when it came to pensions and felt embarrassed about that. After all, I work for a bank and felt I should be more knowledgeable in that field. But the topic just seemed so boring to me. Besides, you always hear that pensions are uncertain. No one can tell me what's in store for our generation, but still I try to prepare for the future as much as I can!’
