Supervisory committee ready to start
12-01-2017
The Dutch central bank (DNB) has approved the appointment of the candidates nominated for membership of the supervisory committee. The chairman of the committee, Irene Vermeeren, looks forward to working together with the managing board of ING CDC Pensioenfonds and feels confident about the committee’s supervisory role.
The managing board of ING CDC Pensioenfonds is responsible for running the pension fund’s day-to-day affairs. This means they are responsible for designing the pension fund's policies as well as implementing them. The managing board is accountable to the supervisory board with regard to the contents of its policies. The members of the managing board and the supervisory board are representatives of the employees and the employer.
Supervision and advice
The pension fund also has in place an internal audit function. In recent years, the internal audit was performed by an audit committee consisting of external auditors who reviewed the pension fund's operations and risk management. The managing board decided to have the internal audit carried out by a supervisory committee with effect from 1 January 2017. This new committee is a permanent organ within the pension fund. In addition to taking over the tasks of the audit committee, the supervisory committee will provide the managing board with advice.
The members of the supervisory committee:
Irene Vermeeren (1970) has been a pension lawyer since 1996 and is currently a partner at international law firm JonesDay. She also fulfils several other positions, including chairman of the Advisory Committee for Pension Law of the Netherlands Bar Association, and lecturer at the Nyenrode Business University Executive Pensions Program, as well as being active in women's networks NIMF and VIIP. Alongside her role as chairman of the supervisory committee, Irene’s areas of responsibility will include governance, regulatory requirements, pension management and communications.
Erwin Capitain (1957) was for many years an accountant and partner at Deloitte. He currently lectures on a part-time basis for the accountants programme of the VU University of Amsterdam and fulfils several supervisory positions inside and outside the pension sector. He was already involved in the pension fund as the chairman of the audit committee. Erwin’s main areas of responsibility will include finance and risk management for ING CDC Pensioenfonds as well as for NN CDC Pensioenfonds.
Pim Baljet (1957) has been working in the financial sector since 1982, particularly in asset management. At present, he is the chairman of the board of asset management firm Oyens & van Eeghen. Pim also fulfils supervisory and advisory positions for a number of industry-wide pension funds in the Netherlands. In his new role as member of the supervisory committee of ING CDC Pensioenfonds and NN CDC Pensioenfonds, he will particularly contribute his broad expertise in the fields of investments and risk management.
The managing board is happy with the appointment of Irene, Erwin and Pim and wishes them all the best in executing their supervisory duties.
