Sebastiaan van den Dries has been appointed director of the board bureau of ING CDC Pensioenfonds, effective 15 January 2018. Bringing with him a wealth of professional experience, Sebastiaan is eager to face the challenges awaiting him in his new role as linking pin between the board and the board bureau.
Sebastiaan is highly experienced in the pension sector. Over the past five years, he was a DC Plan Manager at Royal Dutch Shell and as such involved in setting up and expanding the company’s Defined Contribution (DC) pension plan for new employees. Prior to that, he was Director of Pension & Benefits Advisory at Deloitte. Sebastiaan studied Financial Econometrics and General Economics at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Evolving pension plans
The current CDC pension plan runs until 1 January 2019. This means the social partners (the employer and the trade unions) will meet this year to negotiate new terms and conditions. The board and Sebastiaan are looking forward to the outcome of these negotiations, as they will need to assess whether they will be able to execute, fund and communicate the new pension plan. This is where strategy and operations converge. In his position of director, Sebastiaan sees an important role for the board bureau in terms of providing advice in support of the board’s decisions, executing the board's decisions prudently and cost efficiently, and communicating the decisions clearly to all stakeholders.
The board is happy to welcome Sebastiaan as its new director and wishes him all the best in carrying out his duties for the pension fund.
