On 28 January 2020, Karin Berns was appointed as a member of the managing board of ING CDC Pensioenfonds. Karin’s areas of focus will be pension, communications and governance. She will also be a member of the complaints and disputes committee.
Karin attained masters' degrees in Marketing Management (Business Administration) and Media & Journalism at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, both with honours. In 2010, she joined ING's general management trainee programme, after which she took part in projects in various divisions of the bank, ranging from external relations in Amsterdam to client relationship management in New York. In those years, she specialised in communications and stakeholder management. In recent years, Karin gained broad experience in a board environment through her role of Business Manager for, successively, the CEO of ING in the Netherlands and the CEO of ING in the Benelux.
“Our brain is programmed to be easily tempted to short-term thinking, while preparing for retirement requires the ultimate in long-term thinking. I want to entice my (ex-) colleagues to think long-term, for instance by making their pension affairs easily accessible, literally and figuratively,” Karin says.
In the past year, Karin has thoroughly immersed herself in the pension world and has taken various courses in the field of pensions. In addition, Karin is currently pursuing a master's degree in accredited executive coaching at Hult Ashridge International Business School in London.
The board of ING CDC Pensioenfonds is pleased that Karin has joined the board and wishes her every success in this position.
