Rob, 61 years old, manager

It’s time to make pension choices.

‘With only a few more years to go before I retire, I can look back at a rewarding career at ING, during which I built up a good pension. In recent years, I’ve been reading my Uniform Pension Overview (UPO) and I've called the Pension Desk to enquire about some things. I want to be well-informed about my pension options before I retire. I’m quite interested in the option of having higher pension benefits during the first years of my retirement.

I still find pension difficult to comprehend, so I try to read about it as much as I can. I read letters from my pension fund and regularly login to the Pension Planner. I had so many questions, but by now most of them have been answered. For example, I didn’t know whether I’d be able to opt for early retirement, and how much that would cost me in terms of pension benefits. I now know that I can retire early and that it's quite simple to report this to ING and ING CDC Pensioenfonds. I’ve made a note in my calendar, so I won’t forget to report my early retirement at least six months before my preferred starting date. I wasn't aware there's a deadline!

I had so many questions, but by now most of them have been answered.

After working at ING for 34 years, I’d like to lead an active life as a pensioner. I’d like to spend more time on music, my passion. Moving to a smaller home is not an option at this point, but it could be wise to pay off my mortgage. I talk about mortgages with my friends and I am seriously considering this. Perhaps I’ll go on a long journey after that. Who knows what the future has in store for me! Retirement should be enjoyable, right?
