Experience
I have worked
in the field of pensions since 2003, until recently at ING. I was involved in
making Pensioenfonds ING (the ING Pension Fund) independent, and later in
introducing the CDC pension scheme and setting up the ING CDC Pension Fund,
where employees have been building up their pensions since 2014. After that
came the development and reform of the Dutch pension system, the implementation
of which required intensive cooperation between various parties.
All in all,
over the past 23 years I have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience
in the cooperation between employers, trade unions and pension fund boards.
That experience is now proving valuable. I expect that under the new pension
scheme — which takes effect on 1 January 2028 — the role of the employer will
diminish, while that of the pension fund board will grow.
My areas of
specialisation are, in particular, risk management and employment conditions. A
pension is an important secondary employment benefit. I want to give it real
meaning in the interest of all members, because in the end, pensions are about
people.
What I see as my key task
I see it as my
most important task to help bring about a careful transition to the new pension
rules. That is quite a complex undertaking, one in which we have to make
choices even though not all the parameters have yet been set. Some things may
still change, and we must keep taking that into account. It is essential that
we always keep in mind that everything we do must be explainable to our
members, both young and old.
CDC message
“In future,
your new pension will move more closely with economic developments than it does
today. You will have your own pension capital, which means you can see more
quickly what happens to your pension contributions and what the investments
deliver. The outcome of your pension is not fixed in advance, and you will have
more choices. Take the time to explore them! Of course, we will help you when
you need to make choices, and we are happy to explain how your pension works.”
